Enquire Within Upon Everything : New Work by Rhys Himsworth

REFERENCE Art Gallery is proud to present 'Enquire Within Upon Everything', the first solo show by the Rhys Himsworth. The exhibition will feature new work completed in the last year which builds upon the artists interest in creating autonomous works that monitor and interact with events within the gallery and beyond to the outside world. The artist will mix traditional artists materials, industrial by products, natural elements and computer programming to create works, which explore concepts surrounding surveillance, technological mutations and the hybrid of user and author. Rhys Himsworth's paintings, prints, photographs and multimedia installations are an attempt to discuss the wider societal and cultural outcomes of increased reliance on technology. Working across a range of media, he mixes natural elements with the machine made to create hybrids that have a dialog between the new and the obsolete, the automated and the intuitive and the organic and systematic.

Rhys Himsworth received his BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2003 and his MA in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art in 2009. He is also the winner of the 2009 Conran Foundation Award and the 2009 Land Securities Award. He is currently the 2009/2010 Plant Zero Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond Virginia, USA.
